Things to Think About!

Lifelong Learning and Early Adoption

It’s been almost 30 years since the introduction of the Apple IIC. At that time people described it as “plug and play”. It was user friendly, reasonably sized, and ran a variety of software programs via a 5 ¼ floppy disk. It played sound and video, accepted input from a keyboard, mouse, or joystick, and connected to the outside world via a dial-up modem. While it wasn’t the first computer to hit the market, it was marketed well and received rave reviews. For many ordinary people this machine represented the doorway to better living through technology.

Now, fast forward to today. If you communicate your love of experiencing early technology, some may label you an early adopter. Assuming those individuals are not merely motivated by demonstrating to the world they can use a buzz word/phrase like “early adopter”, consider the whys. If you enjoy the thrill of new ways to live better through technology, the potential to influence future development, and the excitement of new products and services, then, chances are, you may be an early adopter. In the world of technology advancement, early adopters are the creators, innovators, and advocates of new tech. They contrast sharply with the opposite side of the spectrum, laggards. Everyone knows at least one laggard, those resistors who remain reluctant to try new things despite their mainstream success.

Consider your own drive and interests. Do you adapt, adopt, and advocate good things early and often? Perhaps you are a lifelong learner, a person with the natural drive to learn, grow, explore, and improve the quality of your life. If so, consider how better living can be achieved through technology. Enjoy the journey!
